Bit Patterns
by Richard D. Rinehart

This award winning piece was written with science in mind.  Bit Patterns was used as the music to a Peter Quinn produced Scientific Visualization video for the NASA Glenn Research Center's GVIS (Graphics and Visualization) laboratory. This short video won "Special Honorable Mention" in the "Best of Show" category at a Silicon Graphics (SGI) awards banquet (right behind "Beauty and the Beast").

Excerpts from the 6 minute piece are provided here, using an electronic simulated orchestra.  Instrumentation calls for:  flute and wood flute, pipe organ, 2 xylophones and bells (left and right), cymbals, synthesiser, and strings.
